Dr Richard Coates

Richard has been a pleasure to work with as a case manager with my young male client who sustained a traumatic brain injury. From his initial assessment, he has developed an excellent working relationship with the client and his family. His approach is client-centred, well thought out and reasoned and his intervention at times has been impressively innovative including the use of “role play” that the client has responded very well to. Richard works very well within an interdisciplinary team and always keeps the client, his family, other therapists and myself fully involved and up to date with the progress being made and any issues that pop up. He uses his specialist neuropsychology skills, expertise and experience to lead the client and therapy team, but will always be open and willing to consider the opinion and advice of all parties involved with the client neurorehabilitation. I would definitely recommend using Richard for all types of neuropsychology assessment and intervention and look forward to continuing to work with him”.

Richard has been working independently since 2008, working with a range of Case Managers, Solicitors and Therapists. Richard also works with individuals outside of the litigation process, who are looking for private rehabilitation input.

Richard is highly skilled in working with clients to affect positive behavioural changes for the client’s psychological wellbeing and the wellbeing of those around them.

His approach is very accessible and practical for clients with traumatic brain injury, their family members, support workers plus other members of a rehabilitation team. Richard is easy to communicate with and an asset to our rehabilitation team.

Janet McClean, Case Manager, Westcountry Case Management

Richard works using an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Neuropsychological Rehabilitation approach. He is highly reliable, person-centred, and effective at forming strong working relationships with clients and other members of the neurorehabilitation team.

I have worked with Richard in MDTs  rehabbing adults with acquired brain injury. He is a brilliant colleague – warm, receptive and truly client centred. He is very supportive of the speech and language therapy needs of our mutual clients and will provide thoughtful and targeted assistance via joint sessions and his own individual sessions. He shares his up-to-date neuro-psychology knowledge with the therapy teams in an accessible way. Client’s and families regularly tell me how much they appreciate Richard and the input he gives them. I’m always happy to hear that Richard is the Neuropsychologist on the team when I take on new clients!
